Janet Balis
Janet Balis is an accomplished media and marketing executive. She is currently a Managing Director and Partner at BCG working at the intersection of media, advertising, marketing and technology to help clients transform the growth agenda. Previously she worked as a partner at EY for nine years where she led EY’s CMO practice, serving clients across industries, and before that their global consulting practice for the Media and Entertainment industry.
Immediately prior to joining EY, Janet worked extensively across broadcast, digital and print media at highly innovative media and technology companies working directly with large scale brand marketers. She was a Partner at Betaworks leading their innovation lab, served as Publisher of The Huffington Post, and led Sales Strategy and Partnerships at AOL. Previously, she also worked at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, leading the media business across television, print and digital media. She also worked at Time Warner for over eight years.
Janet has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Columbia University. She serves on the global board of the MMA and co-chairs the Gotham Chapter of YPO. She has served on boards of PRX, the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (the “Emmy’s”), and She Runs It.
Janet is a featured thought leader in media, such as Harvard Business Review, CNBC, Reuters, and Forbes. She also speaks onstage for major events, including MIT Medialab's Web3 Summit, CES, Fast Company's Innovation Festival, Cannes LIONS, Variety Summit, the Forbes CMO Summit, the Harvard Digital Initiative Summit, Possible, and the IAB Annual Leadership Meeting.
Janet was named in 2024 as a Top 25 Consultant in Sales and Marketing by Consulting Report, in 2018 as a Woman to Watch by Multichannel News, a 2017 Women of Excellence Award recipient by the National Association of Female Executives (NAFE), an Advertising Age 2010 Women to Watch, and a Crains Top 40 Under 40 in 2006.
